It's Time to Stand Up

It's February 14th, Valentine's Day, a day set aside to celebrate love, but here we are with yet another school shooting, killing innocent people, school kids, and what do our politicians offer? Sensible gun legislation? How about some bipartisan debate about what we can do as a nation to stop the senseless killing and then take immediate action? Nope. Worthless thoughts and prayers, again!

Sending thoughts and prayers are the least you can do. Pissing into the wind would be more helpful. In fact, stop insulting the American people, and the world, and keep your damned thoughts and prayers to yourselves. Look around you. Your thoughts and prayers haven't done a damned bit of good. Now or ever, and they never will.

When did America stop cherishing and protecting its children? When did children become pawns in political agendas and corporate greed? When did money and power become more important than the lives of the innocent? When did it become okay for nuts hiding behind religion to molest, beat, withhold health care and a good education and bully our kids into their own deplorable image?

There is nothing more precious and important than our children. Nothing. Not money, not power, not donations from corporations, and not deplorable behavior hiding behind "rights." We as a nation should do everything we can to protect our kids. To make sure they are safe when they go to school, and for god's sake, keep them from getting gunned down by sick, mentally disturbed people who shouldn't have been able to get guns in the first place.

One of the first acts of Trump when he entered the Whitehouse, was to sign H.J. Res. 40, effectively ending the Social Security Administration's requirement to enter the names of people who receive mental health benefits into the National Instant Criminal Background Check System. It's the database used by the FBI to determine who is able to purchase firearms. So in other words, he got rid of important regulation that made it more difficult for people with a known mental illness to buy guns. And the GOP went right along with this because it's what the NRA wanted. Nice! So maybe the GOP should stop blaming the FBI, and take responsibility themselves for removing a vital tool that could have helped prevent this.

And for those politicians who keep saying, "this isn't the time to talk about gun control." Fuck you. You have no right to tell us when it is or isn't time to talk about gun control. You're bought and paid for by the very organization, and the very people responsible for this disgusting mess America is in. This isn't, and never has been about taking guns away from law abiding citizens. It's about keeping guns out of the hands of those who shouldn't have them. And no private citizen needs assault weapons. A majority of Americans want them banned, and by the way, so did Ronald Reagan.

So what can we do as private citizens right now? The first thing to do is let your representatives know you've had enough and want changes. Make sure they know you are not happy with their performance and you are ready to show them just how disgusted you are with your vote, but be polite and cordial. Don't cuss like I did in this post! The best way is to call their office, but if you can't or don't want to do that, please, still let your voice be heard. It can't get easier than this:

Here's a great free service called Resistbot. You can read all about it, and find out how to use it at: https://resist.bot/

It's a wonderful way to let Congress and the Whitehouse know how you feel about what they've been up to. It will only take a couple minutes of your time, and it is important. Please do this, and use it to let your voice be heard whenever an issue affects you. It really does matter, and it works. You can even access it on Facebook Messenger if you use that. It's free, but if you are so inclined, you can donate to them to keep things rolling. Remember, if you say nothing, they will figure you don't care and they will go on doing whatever the hell they want to. Not good.

The second thing you can do is the most powerful. Vote every one of these corrupt politicians out in the 2018 November election. This is your power, and this is your right. Use it, please.

It's time for all of us to take a stand. Enough of this crazy bullshit. Our kids are being slaughtered in front of our eyes on an almost weekly basis. How can we keep letting this happen? It has to stop. But it won't stop until we stand up and say, "we are Americans, we are better than this, we are greater than the corrupt idiots representing us and we can and will change this."

Every sane American should, and most do support common sense gun reform. 9 out of 10 public schools now hold mass shooting drills for students. We have the power to elect people who will protect lives, not bow down to the NRA and gun sellers’ profits. Please remember this and the representatives who do nothing about gun control when you vote in November. If not for yourself, do it for the kids.
